Dubai Marina has no shortage of nightlife: rooftop bars, waterfront lounges and hotel clubs line the canal. It also has crowds, queues and prices aimed at tourists. If you live in the Marina and want a different kind of night, Sugar Lounge & Club in Al Barsha is about 15 minutes away along Sheikh Zayed Road. You get a full club with themed nights, a lounge with shisha and VIP tables, with a crowd that is mostly Dubai residents rather than weekend visitors.
From most Marina towers, take Sheikh Zayed Road towards Mall of the Emirates and turn into Al Barsha 1. At night the trip usually takes 12 to 18 minutes, depending on which end of the Marina you start from and how busy the interchanges are. Ride-hailing pick-ups are easy from the Marina’s tower lobbies, and the drop-off at Montreal Barsha Hotel is right at the door.
The Marina is served by the Red Line, with stations near the towers on Sheikh Zayed Road. Ride towards Centrepoint for a few stops to Mall of the Emirates Station, then walk or take a short taxi to 23rd Street. It is a quick and cheap way to arrive early in the evening. For the journey home, take a taxi, as the metro closes before we do.
Living in the Marina means nightlife on your doorstep, but it also means the same venues every week and weekend crowds from across the city. Sugar Club offers something different: a themed night every day of the week, a dance floor that fills with people who came for that music, and table prices that are friendlier than the Marina’s waterfront clubs. Many residents use us as their midweek club and a regular weekend alternative.
The Marina is home to a young, international population, and they tend to come out midweek. Wednesday’s hip hop night in Dubai is the most popular night for Marina residents, with R&B, 2000s anthems and current rap. Tuesday’s ladies night in Dubai brings free cocktails and shisha for ladies, and is a favourite for girls’ nights that want to escape the Marina’s usual spots.
Groups from the Marina often arrive together in one car and want a base for the night. Book a table and you get a host, bottle service, shisha and a clear view of the dance floor. Our VIP table booking in Dubai page explains how minimum spend works. Midweek tables are easier to book and lower in cost; weekend tables should be reserved a few days in advance.
Thursday to Saturday are Arabic nights at Sugar Club, with Khaleeji, Levantine and Egyptian hits and a busy room. Sunday is Afrobeats, Amapiano and Afro house, one of our best-dressed and most energetic nights. Both are a change of pace from the Marina’s usual house and commercial music, and both are worth the short ride.
Dubai Marina is a long canal lined with residential and hotel towers, with Marina Walk running along the water and JBR on the beach side. It is one of the densest parts of Dubai, popular with young professionals, families and short-stay visitors. Its nightlife is concentrated in hotels and on the waterfront, which keeps it busy, but also means queues, dress-code lines and tourist pricing at peak times.
Marina groups often meet in one tower lobby and leave together. Send us your expected arrival time and the organiser’s name, and we will have your table ready when the car pulls up at Montreal Barsha Hotel. If friends are coming from elsewhere, they can be added to the guest list so they are directed straight to your table.
If your night usually starts at a Marina shisha café, you can do the same at Sugar Club and skip the second taxi. Our shisha lounge in Al Barsha serves shisha every night, with the dance floor a few steps away when the DJ turns it up.
Friends in the lake towers can use our night club near JLT guide, and colleagues in the business parks can follow our night club near Dubai Media City page. JBR residents have their own guide on the nightlife near me page, and the venue overview is on our Sugar Club.
Taxis wait outside Montreal Barsha Hotel at closing, and the run back to the Marina along Sheikh Zayed Road is quick at night. Never drive after drinking; Dubai has zero tolerance.
